Bios

  • Jennifer "Kippy" York

    DVM

Dr. York grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania. She knew she wanted to be a Veterinarian since childhood. She was inspired to become a veterinarian by her dog Barney and animal caretakers that mentored her in the past. These mentors include several wildlife rehabilitators as well as a veterinarian she assisted in Russia while in the Peace Corps. Their dedication and insight, even under the most difficult financial and emotional circumstances, inspired her to join their ranks. Dr. York Graduated from Tufts University of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and has a B.S. degree from Pennsylvania State. She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Angell Animal Medical Center, Western New England. Dr. York has special interests in exotic medicine, shelter medicine and ophthalmology. One of her most memorable veterinary experiences was diagnosing a hamster, named Joey with dilated cardiomyopathy (a type of heart disease that causes the walls of the heart to stretch thin) and starting him on treatment for heart failure. Dr. York shares her home with Odo, a German Short Haired Pointer and Moonshine, a Siamese cross kitty. In her spare time she enjoys bird watching, painting, reading and live music.

  • Harriet Blanton

    DVM, Staff Veterinarian

Dr. Blanton has worked at VCA Wickaboag Animal Hospital since 2000. Growing up as one of three siblings on a Kansas farm, Dr. Blanton always knew exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up: a veterinarian, of course! “Who could imagine a better job than playing with animals all day?” says Dr. Blanton, who received her D.V.M. degree from Washington State University in 1991. Dr. Blanton is particularly interested in internal medicine, animal behavior and the human-animal bond. In her free time, she stays active with snowshoeing, hiking, and scuba diving. She also enjoys knitting, reading and cooking. She shares her home with her husband Tim (a geologist), Ollie (a young terrier mix); two cats (Josephina and Naomi J); and Walter the cockatiel.

  • Carly Speyer

    DVM, Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Speyer received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and her DVM from Tuft's University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating from veterinary school, she completed an intensive small animal internship at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in South Weymouth, MA. Dr. Speyer then worked as a small animal relief veterinarian in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. After moving to Amherst, Dr. Speyer is excited to settle down and work full time at VCA Wickaboag. She loves the bonds she forms with her patients and their owners and finds them integral to her care as a doctor. Outside of work, Dr. Speyer enjoys spending time with her husband, her son, and her dog named Betsy. She can also be found enjoying the outdoor lifestyle that the Pioneer Valley has to offer, doing yoga, arts and crafts, photography, and reading a good book.

While in Florida she donated some of her time volunteering at the Marathon Sea Turtle Hospital and the Marathon Wild Bird Center. Dr. Raymond relocated to Massachusetts in the Summer of 2007. Besides her special interest in exotics, she also enjoys soft tissue surgery and internal medicine. Although she loves working with dogs and cats, Dr. Raymond also has extensive experience in all types of reptiles, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, hamsters, birds and many other species.
